🔜WeatherMapping - Forecast Provider Selection
Forecast Providers in the Station Mapping module of WeatherMapping.com - One Interface, Multiple Forecast Views
Weather forecasts are not all created equal. Different models use different assumptions, emphasize different physics, and perform better in different regions and time horizons. One of the most common frustrations for analysts, traders, and planners is having to jump between tools just to answer a simple question: what does another model say about this same location and time period?
The Forecast Provider tool in the station mapping module is designed to remove that friction.

What the Forecast Provider Does
The Forecast Provider selector lets you choose which forecast model is driving your analysis when you are working in raw, non-comparison mode. Within the valid forecast window, you can switch between supported providers, currently ECMWF, GFS, and Marcus Weather (more will be added), and instantly see how the forecast values change for the same stations, dates, and variables.
There is no need to redraw regions, reselect stations, or reset your map. You are simply changing the forecast source behind the scenes, and WeatherMapping takes care of everything else.
When It Appears and When It Does Not
The Forecast Provider selector is context-aware by design.
It only appears when your selected date range falls within the active forecast window. It is hidden automatically if you move outside the forecast range, enable comparison tools, or switch to yearly or historical comparison modes.
This keeps the interface clean and avoids confusion. The Forecast Provider is meant for single-source analysis, not side-by-side model comparisons, which already have their own dedicated controls.
ECMWF, GFS, and Marcus Weather
Each provider offers a different perspective.
ECMWF provides the broadest variable coverage and is well suited for deeper environmental analysis, including products that rely on climatology or longer historical context.
GFS offers a familiar operational view that many users already rely on in day-to-day workflows.
Marcus Weather delivers a more focused forecast set centered on precipitation and temperature signals, designed for users who want a clean, signal-driven view without unnecessary complexity.
WeatherMapping automatically adjusts the available variable list based on the selected provider. If a variable is not supported by a particular model, it will not appear as an option. This prevents invalid selections and ensures that every map and chart is built on real, consistent data.
Why This Matters
The Forecast Provider tool is about speed and clarity. Instead of wondering which tool or model you need, you can stay in one place and ask a more useful question: how sensitive is this signal to the forecast source?
For users tracking risk, weather-driven demand, or operational exposure, that perspective matters. Being able to switch forecast sources instantly without losing context makes it easier to spot uncertainty, confirm confidence, and move faster with better information.
As WeatherMapping continues to expand its forecast coverage, the Forecast Provider tool will remain a key part of how users explore, validate, and trust the signals they see.
